† Fashion † My Go-To Shoes

Punk and grunge fashion can sometimes be difficult to emulate without spending tons of money on good, unusual shoes. This is my list of the shoes I own which help me to express my inner rock-star (lol).

Doc Martens are "bae", to quote Vine. Yes, they're expensive. But you know what, your first pair will probably outlive you. They also just so happen to go with almost anything, and come in a huge range of colour, cut, design... I am absolutely in love with mine, I cherish them above any other pair of shoes I own (and most people I know...)

The Tartan shoelaces are also from Doc Martens' own brand, but when I bought these, they came with plain black and also electric yellow shoelaces.

You can do almost anything with an outfit that includes Docs. My personal favourite is a nice feminine skirt or dress, with fishnets/ripped tights and Docs. The contrast created is awesome.

† Beauty † Grunge Smokey Eye Tutorial

So I'm one of those people who will go for a smokey eye if I wear makeup. I have a long history of worrying about how small my eyes are, so I tend to overcompensate. That said, smokey eyes are the BEST. This tutorial is one of my favourite casual grunge looks.

This look is specifically showcasing the L'Oréal Super Liner Smokissime (not sponsored, btw). If I'm correct, it's a relatively new release (think end of January), and I am LOVING IT. For those wondering:

This is it in all its glory. The greatest thing is that it's actually powder, which makes it long lasting but also easy to correct if you mess up.

† Health † Matcha Tropical Drink recipe

Teapigs' Matcha powder is a titan amongst teas. It really revolutionized how much health benefits I was getting from my tea consumption. My only problem with it? The taste. I don't think anyone would disagree with me that Matcha tea is very bitter and unpleasant tasting. That said, I've remained determined to get the most out of this super-tea, no matter the flavour. I've done the whole shot-it-down with Matcha and warm water in a shotglass, and the whole dilute-it-in-water until you can hardly taste it... But neither of those are terribly appealing. I've been experimenting with different combinations, and I've finally come up with one I like! I thought I'd share it with you all, so that you can enjoy Matcha more :)

† Beauty † Mini Cosmetics Haul (and first impressions)

I tend to do this thing where I wait until I need to buy several things from Boots or Superdrug (or other) because then I can do a whole shopping trip and it feels more exciting (life? what's a life?)

Anyhow, that's what I did the other day. I bought many new products that I hadn't tried yet, so I figure this can be a sort of 2-in-1 Haul and First impressions.

Firstly, I got several moisturizers because my amazing Soap and Glory Righteous Butter tub ran out... (My heart broke a little)

I got the Dove Winter Care tub, and
this ADORABLE mini-Nivea pot

† Chit Chat † Get more traffic to your blog

Disclaimer: No spoilers (probably). Non exhaustive list

As a beginner myself, when Im looking up ways in which to help promote my blog, I'm often flooded with suggestions that don't actually help me that much, or are in fact plain old untrue. I thought I'd put together a little list of techniques and websites that have helped me; this is from one beginner blogger to another, I won't try and sell you anything :)

This website is UK based, but it's by no means the only one of its kind. You can sign up as a blogger, a brand or a publisher. Essentially, it allows bloggers of all levels of experience (within the lifestyle/beauty/fashion scope) to come into contact with brands and magazines who are looking for bloggers. The layout is a little confusing at first, but you'll soon get how to operate it just fine! I enjoy this website mainly to explore what brands are looking for, but also to see what new bloggers are popping up on the scene.

Here are some examples of the kind of thing you can explore on TBP

As you might see on the right of my blog, they offer some cool badges you can add to your blog (which I'd like to think add a touch of legitimacy, I'm such a sucker for that kind of thing...)

† Beauty † Current skincare routine (nighttime edition)

AKA keep your skin alive in early spring

Every year around this time, I have to resist the urge to wear shorts and a tshirt out, even though it's still winter, just because "we're in March now". The same can be said about my face- I don't take the same intense care of my skin, resulting in serious chapping,  because I'm dumb.... SO here's a light but effective skincare routine to keep your skin protected without feeling like you're still in the throes of some harsh winter.

First of all, I use Garnier's Micellar Water (which I LOVE) to both remove my makeup, and then as a face cleanser. If I feel like it's not enough (if I've had a greasy face day), I follow that up with the Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Cleanser. The great thing about both these two (the Micellar Water and the Cleanser) is that all you do is pour a little on a cotton pad and swipe over your face. It's so quick, and amazingly effective. Plus, the Micellar Water is scent-less if that's your kind of thing!

Sorry about the less than ideal quality of the Micellar Water photo (and thank you to www.boots.com for the photo of the Blackhead Cleanser)

† Beauty † Wake Me Up concealer by Rimmel review

"The instant cup of coffee for your eyes... oh wait no, they forgot the whipped cream :( "

I'm a die-hard fan of Collection's Lasting Perfection concealer, but after I ran out last week, Rimmel's Wake Me Up concealer caught my eye. I think it was Zoella (not 100% sure) who raved about it a year ago or so, and given that, even if I slept for a year, I wouldn't be able to get rid of the bags under my eyes, "Wake Me Up" as a name was compelling!

I bought it for £5.49 at Superdrug, so that makes it about £1 more expensive than the Collection concealer. Below is the photo of the bottle, and a swatch on my arm. I would have liked to have had a Collection concealer swatch to compare it to, but as I said above, I ran out (makes sense...)

† Health † When the sugar craving hits...

Anti-sugar craving healthy snack

I always get a very pronounced sugar craving at some point in the afternoon, typically when I get home from classes. Even if I've had a really good day until then, I'll so often cave and eat something unhealthy. I'll then go "oh well my healthy day is ruined", and the rest of the day is a write off. It's stupid that something so small should have such a nefarious effect on the rest of my day, but what can I say? The mind is willing but the flesh is weak....

SO here's an example of the kind of snack I'll have which will both satisfy my urge for sugar, but also keep me sated until later on, when I decide to have dinner. You can change this up as much as you need to, this is a prototype

† Health † Quick, healthy lunch idea

Hey all!

Should this blog become more of a "thing", I'm considering making a whole series of this kind of post. We shall see!

This is a lunch idea that combines several very important aspects when trying to eat healthily, especially if you're a student (like me):

  • It's cheap
  • It's quick to make
  • It's easy to make
  • It's nutritious and low in carbs

So, without further ado, here it is!

-Two eggs (not three, despite the photo)
-A small portion of smoked salmon
-Green beans
-Mixed seeds
-Almond milk
